Change the Color of the Text on a Commodore VIC-20 Using Keyboard Commands (5-10 mins)

Task: Change the Color of the Text on a Commodore VIC-20

Needed: Commodore VIC-20

Time: 5-10 minutes

Introduction

I have previously posted about purchasing a Commodore VIC-20 computer. I have two and have not had the opportunity to spend much time with them. I learned recently that you change the color of the text on the screen using simple keyboard commands. I thought this was really cool and something you could not do on the Apple II or Atari 800 that were available in 1980 when the VIC-20 was released. This project is to boot up your VIC-20 and give the color change a try!

Instructions

Boot up your VIC-20 into BASIC and look for the colors on the front of the number keys (1-8) as shown below. Simply press CONTROL and the number key for the color you want. Start typing!

Comments

What a cool feature! Note you can also change to lower case by pressing the Commodore key in the lower left along with SHIFT.
