Task: Download and Install the WinUAE Amiga Emulator for Windows
Needed: Windows PC, WinUAE installation files, Amiga Kickstart ROM
Time: 15-30 minutes
Introduction
There are several emulators for Amiga 16-bit and 32-bit computers. WinUAE is a popular one for Windows. FS-UAE is another that can be set up on Windows or Mac and Linux. I personally found WinUAE to be easier to use and I am currently a Windows PC user.
Instructions
Navigate to the WinUAE website and download the 32-bit or 64-bit installer.
I put the WinUAE folder in my Program Files directory and created a Kickstart folder there for the Amiga ROMs that I purchased the licenses to from Amiga Forever. I also created a folder there for my ADF disk images for booting.

I then added a WinUAE.exe shortcut on my desktop for easy launch
Finally, it is time to launch WinUAE. Launch should take you to the Quickstart page in Settings. From there, you can select the Amiga machine you want to emulate along with the configuration (e.g. 4 MB Fast RAM), the compatibility, and the host configuration (e.g. windowed or full screen). You can also select an ADF file from there for insertion into virtual 3.5″ floppy drive DF0. You can then select start and it should boot and run your ADF file. Use F12 to pause emulation and return to the properties window.
There are a ton of other options to explore regarding the emulate hardware and the game controllers, for example.

Comments
I really like this emulator. It is super easy to install and use. Definitely worth a try!
Lemon Amiga is a great source of ADF files.
Be sure and pair this with a wireless controller for Windows. I use one from 8BitDo, but there are many others!
